The Beginning..

Amidst the bustling aisles of a London supermarket, a puzzling sight caught my attention: Why were fruits and pre-cut vegetables subjected to such excessive plastic packaging?

This enigma became the origin of my design research project. Join me as I explore how design interventions can enhance sustainability, impacting supermarkets and beyond.

Themes

This Project aims to explore three main themes:

  • Global scope and environmental impact through the Discover stage.

  • System thinking and speculative design concepts through the Scenarios stage.

  • Sustainability & eco-friendly packaging through the Develop stage.

U.N Sustainable Development Goals

E_WEB_12.png

Promoting sustainable production and consumption patterns through innovative packaging design and plastic waste reduction.

E_WEB_13.png

Reducing single-use plastics could help mitigate climate impacts across the lifecycle of packaging.

E_WEB_14.png

Preventing plastic pollution contributes to improving ocean health and reducing marine ecosystem damage.

E_WEB_15.png

Plastic waste threatens terrestrial ecosystems and wildlife as well. Sustainable packaging helps.

Research Question

"How might a design intervention help reduce plastic usage in the overall lifecycle of fruits and pre-cut vegetables in supermarkets, increasing their sustainability and eco-friendliness?"
